Ron Paul: Lincoln was an anti-war candidate just like me!

September 6, 2007 · Leave a Comment

images-1.jpgTo all you doubters of my election campaign I remind you of this unlikely hero who would later become President of the United States of America–Abraham Lincoln. Today he is celebrated, but for much of his time in office he was actually despised. After all they killed him, like they are trying kill me. I look up to him.

Sure he was tall, and I’m not. He was an eloquent speaker who will be quoted in the annals of history, while I pander emotionally charged rhetoric to the kids in the rEVOLution. But outside of that, we have a lot in common. We are both known for our simple minded straight forward approach to honoring the Constitution and the intention of the Founding Fathers.

Consequently, a short history lesson on the Civil War and its relation to our present conflict in the middle-east would be an important reminder to many who think that war is a solution. What you need to understand is that Pres. Lincoln was very reluctant to go to war against the south. He did not want to be involved in other people’s battles. That was “their” problem. Lincoln was an anti-war candidate just like me!

But states rights, slavery and John Brown’s little insurrection at Harpers Ferry forced him into a position he never wanted to be in. Namely, to stand up against the forces of rebellion and to commit troops to war. A struggle that would cost the lives of nearly 600,000 soldiers and another 300,000 civilians amounting to approximately 3% of the U.S. population! And I say for what? Nearly one million dead in four years? Was that worth it?

In fact, his decision to go to war would tear the Nation in two for several generations. That is a terrible domestic war policy! (video) Then, like now, we have it all wrong. It is not an “either or” proposition of do we or don’t we go to war. We have no business going to war over how other people live their lives. The Civil War is a great case in point. They fought us because we were messing around with them down there!

Rudy Giuliani just doesn’t seem to understand that nor does the rest of the neo-con hijackers of our party. Of course, neither did Lincoln come to think of it.

If you would like to get the facts straight as to why Lincoln and the Civil War was a forerunner to our present wartime strategies and an example of the abuse of presidential powers, I suggest you do some serious study here. Of course I did it for you kids since no one but me has your best interests at heart. So, why bother.

You can trust me, I am a 20 year Washington insider. If you can’t trust us who can you?

Debate Highlights on National Security – Ron Paul

September 6, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Ok, ok. I know I was a little unhinged tonight. Listen, you don’t know what it’s like to be me. When they finally let me speak I get a little excited. Wouldn’t you? Honestly, no one in the main stream media pays any attention to me. Second, those neo-con lovers at FOX do everything they can to avoid me because they know only I HAVE THE TRUTH. When they do call on me, I have to make every word count. So if you missed it, here is my favorite line from last nights debate:

Going into Iraq and Afghanistan and threatening Iran is the worst thing we can do for our national security. I am less safe, the American people are less safe for this. It’s the policy that is wrong…

Of course I also argued that we should abolish the FBI, CIA and Homeland Security. Why people cannot understand that these agencies are a greater hindrance to our safety then any benefit they may bring us is beyond me.

The truth is, I contend we were far better off before this irrational fear of muslim extremism took hold of our country on 9/11. Private security has served our country for decades. In fact, our Constitution says nothing about protecting airports or airlines. That is a job of the private sector! They would do a much better job than what we have done these last 7 years. It is incontrovertibly true–we are less safe now.

Besides, I am uncertain to the veracity of many of the conclusions of the 9/11 Report and whether the hijackers were even capable in executing what many people have been led to believe or at least some of my friends claim.

Peace
