Mike Huckabee vs Ron Paul vs Abraham Lincoln

September 6, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Last nights debate brought with it an interesting exchange with Mike Huckabee. While he is generally a nice southern guy, he is still terribly ignorant when it comes to understanding the significance of war. So I had to school him like I did that sly Italian from New York earlier this year. This was our exchange:

That tricky Huckabee made an allusion to Lincoln’s famous “A House Divided” speech. Lincoln thought it was cute to quote the Bible and suggest that A house divided against itself cannot stand. It was just another talking point to the ramp up for war. He was talking about slavery, individual rights and the role of states rights. He went on to say:

This necessity had not been overlooked; but had been provided for, as well as might be, in the notable argument of “squatter sovereignty,” otherwise called “sacred right of self-government,” which latter phrase, though expressive of the only rightful basis of any government, was so perverted in this attempted use of it as to amount to just this:

That if any one man choose to enslave another, no third man shall be allowed to object. That argument was incorporated into the Nebraska bill itself, in the language which follows: “It being the true intent and meaning of this act not to legislate slavery into any Territory or State, nor to exclude it therefrom; but to leave the people thereof perfectly free to form and regulate their domestic institutions in their own way, subject only to the Constitution of the United States. . .

Yeah, this is exactly what I have been saying! — I think? — Never mind, most of you have no idea what he is talking about anyway. State vs Federal vs Individual rights — just as long as I throw the word “Constitution” in it seems to work. That’s how I get away with this. It’s called the Department of Education which I intend to abolish unlike slavery under my system of non-intervention. It’s ironic though. The very educational system which has failed our youth, nevertheless each day breeds for me a new opportunity to actually get elected.
